Intro to Watercolor Painting with Kathleen McElwaine

Week One: 
Students learn how to use the water brush by first creating a color palette and then painting a 6 x 8 inch watercolor painting of the painting shown.

Week Two: Students learn the importance of not taking each painting too seriously by learning how to playfully paint the bluebonnets. Each brush stroke is just right. Fun class and the class everyone remembers the most.

Kathleen will demonstrate how to paint the Colorado Columbine first,  then students will paint.

Week Three: Students learn to lay color on the painting and then pull it out to create a background in an image. Layering, blending and mixing colors on the painting is introduced, easily and successfully with this painting when we paint the flower petals of this yellow flower.

Week Four:
 Layering, blending and mixing colors on the painting is the skill to be practiced over and over again and this Hibiscus is just the flower to reinforce and practice the techniques needed.

Again reinforce layering, blending and color mixing with the Grape Cluster.

Week Five: Kathleen will demonstrate how to paint the Sea Turtle AN063 first then students will paint. The sea turtle is the most fun of all. Now students are ready for more challenges and are prepared for the Studio Watercolor with Kathleen.

The following Supplies are included in the class price.

BRUSHES: Pentel Water Brush - Medium

PALETTE: Plastic sectional tray with paint

PAPER: 30 sheets of 100% cotton, 6 x 8 inch watercolor paper

HANDOUT: Inspirational images plus patterns needed for each week.

You will need but NOT PROVIDED

TAPE: MUST Have Scotch Tape for transferring patterns


Watercolor Paper: Canson XL 9x12 pad of Student Watercolor paper

Brush: Pentel Water Brush - Small

CONTAINER: Drip bottle 

ERASER: White Polymer

PENCIL:  #2 regular pencils  and a way to sharpen.

Paper Towels: Quality is preferred, less quality leaves particulates on your brush.

Spiral for Note taking

Consider If you want to keep a portfolio with patterns and practice strokes.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: This class is designed to introduce a beginner to watercolor painting. No drawing or painting skills, are required.
Materials Included: Paint to be determined Pentel Water brush, 30 sheets of 100% cotton paper, Class handouts, 5 patterns.
